FREE HEALTH CHECKS

Please contact Rachael at Rachael.austen-jones@rhl.org.uk for details of other events.

The NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your overall health. It can tell you whether you're at higher risk of getting certain health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and stroke. If you're over 65, you will also be told the signs and symptoms of dementia to look out for.

If you're aged 40-74 and you haven't had a stroke, or you don't already have heart disease, diabetes or kidney disease, you should have an NHS Health Check every five years. If you're over the age of 74, you will need to contact your GP or nurse directly to request a health check-up if you have any particular questions or concerns.

As well as measuring your risk of developing these health problems, an NHS Health Check gives you advice on how to prevent them. The risk level varies from person to person, but everyone is at risk of developing heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and some types of dementia.

Your NHS Health Check can detect potential health problems before they do real damage.

To be eligible you must:

  • Be aged between 40 and 74 years old

  • Be registered with a GP in Hampshire

  • Not have had a NHS Health Check in the last 5 years

  • Not have one or more of the following pre-existing conditions; Diabetes, Hypertension, Chronic Kidney Disease, Angina, Familial Hyperlipidaemia, Atrial Fibrillation, Peripheral Arterial Disease, Stroke, Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), Heart Failure, Heart Attack, Coronary Heart Disease -Not be taking one or more of the following medication; Blood thinning medication (except for DVT), Anticoagulants including Warfarin, Apixaban, Rivaroxaban, Dabigatran (except for DVT), Hypertensive drugs, Anti-platelets, Cholesterol medication, Statins, Diabetes medication

The health check will be carried out by trained staff and will take no more than 15 minutes per person. You will be given the results at your check and the information will then be added to your GP records.

If you would like to book a FREE NHS Health Check, have any questions, or are interested in having RHL visit your business, community group or event to run FREE NHS Health Checks please email Rachael at rachael.austen-jones@rhl.org.uk.
