A HEARTFELT THANKS TO RHL
In April 2016 Roger George underwent open-heart surgery. To aid his recovery from such a major operation he was recommended by his doctor to start a Cardiac Rehabilitation course. He completed the Phase III Cardiac Rehabilitation course with Frimley Park Hospital, but felt that he needed more support and help so started the Phase IV course run by RHL.
Roger found some everyday movements such as getting up from a chair challenging, and the Phase IV classes provided guidance and exercises with specialist instructors to make things easier. It also helped to build his confidence in going out and committing to regular sessions helped him to keep exercising.
Roger attends two RHL Cardiac classes per week, and says, ‘I feel better and am fitter now than before the operation. This isn’t
just an exercise thing for me – it’s a social thing as well – half the time I don’t even notice that I’m exercising!’ The classes also mean that members can talk to people who’ve experienced similar problems, and the peer support that our members get from each other and the increase in confidence in their abilities is invaluable.
As a big thank you to RHL for helping him get healthy again, Roger’s son, Simon and two of his friends, Scott and Patrick, flew over from North Carolina in September to cycle a massive 1000 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for RHL with Roger driving the support car!
Their efforts raised nearly £2500 for RHL, a small Health and Wellbeing charity based in Farnborough.
RHL run a number of classes and projects – everything from Cardiac & Cancer Rehabilitation Classes and Free NHS Health Checks across Hants to Nepali Health Education & Integration sessions!
