Why choose a seated class?
Do you struggle to get up and down from the floor or have limited mobility? If so, a Chair Pilates or Seated Exercise class could be ideal. Sessions enable you to achieve the benefits of a floor-based or standing class, but with the support of a chair. You’ll either sit to complete exercises or, for those who are able, some classes may combine seated exercises with some standing exercises using your chair for support.
Classes work to improve aspects such as general fitness, mobility, posture and mental well-being. |
What is Chair Pilates?
Chair Pilates focuses on strengthening the core and increasing mobility. You will develop core awareness and core endurance, which will help you to improve posture and balance, as well as developing flexibility in a calm and relaxed environment. Pilates can be really beneficial for many back problems, often helping to alleviate pain and discomfort. It can also be great for hip and shoulder issues too. The class will use traditional and adapted exercises, all performed with the use of a chair for help and support. |

What is Seated Exercise?
Seated Exercise is a chair-based exercise class that is choreographed to music. The class will target the whole body through gentle exercises designed to help improve co-ordination, mobility, flexibility, muscular strength and fitness.
Classes can be done in a chair or a wheelchair, and will often use equipment such as balls and bands. |
What will happen in a Chair Pilates / Seated Exercise class?
Chair Pilates uses exercises to effectively target a variety of muscles, working in different positions using the chair. Exercises are performed slowly and with control, concentrating on your body alignment, the core and your breath. If you have never tried Pilates before, please don’t worry, options and adaptations will be given to ensure everyone is able to work to their own level.
Seated exercise is a fun class that is performed to music whilst seated in a chair (or where appropriate, standing with the chair for support). Within a class you will work through different exercises and movements to target the whole body. Different level options will be given throughout. |
